Head of Major Gifts

Delivering the strategy for high value gifts, your work will have a major impact on the hospice’s ability to continue to deliver end of life care and a range of associated services to the local community. You will be working alongside a passionate and dedicated fundraising team, key stakeholders, and the professionals involved in service delivery to build relationships across the organisation that support the goals of the fundraising strategy.

With a strong strategic element, we are looking to find a candidate who has a strong background in working with major donors, philanthropy management, and can demonstrate success in securing and maintaining the support of high net worth individuals and other major donors.

We are looking for a candidate who is:

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of securing major (100k +) multi year relationships with High Net Worth Individuals, Trusts, and organisations.

  • Experienced at managing donor relationships through all stages of cultivation

  • Commercially aware with an understanding of how businesses operate and how HNWI’s and Trusts make philanthropic decisions

  • Able to make evidence-based decisions underpinned by relationship fundraising theory

  • Experienced in team management, coaching, and motivational skills

  • Outstanding at planning, delivering, and evaluating with demonstrable skills in public speaking and presenting key information to stakeholders

 

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Lead on the development of a Major Gifts team to deliver the fundraising strategy from high value gifts through the development of high value long-term (multi-year) relationships

  • Develop a case for support and devise the cultivation and stewardship strategy for supporters considering or making high value gifts, pledges and grants

  • Manage direct reports, setting KPI’s and monitoring progress against targets, carrying out individual performance review process (regular 1:1s, annual and mid-year reviews) and supporting their ongoing professional development

  • Develop plans for the Major Gifts Team, ensuring effective use of resources and the growth of high value giving

  • Recruit, develop and retain staff to have the right skills within the team to deliver the fundraising strategy

  • Oversee the development and management of an attractive Corporate offering and legacy programme along with the development and management of a relational stewardship offerings for legacy pledgers.

  • Lead the team on the planning and delivery of events suitable for engagement with, and recognition of, major donors, corporates, legacy pledgers and trusts

  • Deputise for the Director of Fundraising as required
